The Realities of End-to-End Payment Routing
Why the API is just the doorway: dynamic multi-rail path selection across SWIFT, SEPA, Target2 and domestic rails, managing liquidity and regulatory data consistency.

A clean payments API makes routing look simple: one request, one transfer. Behind it, every payment is a decision about which rail, which intermediary and which liquidity pool will carry it.
Choosing the path
SWIFT, SEPA, Target2 and domestic schemes differ in cost, speed, cut-off times and reach. Dynamic routing chooses per payment, weighing currency, amount, urgency and beneficiary bank reachability.
Liquidity decides what is possible
The cheapest rail is useless if the account behind it is not funded. Routing must know, in real time, where liquidity sits and when it will be replenished.
Data must survive the journey
Each rail carries payment data differently. Payer and payee information required by regulation must arrive intact whichever path is chosen, so translating data between formats is part of routing, not an afterthought.
